The Topaz Southerns took place on Saturday 6th August in fine weather and produced some great sailing. The fleet of TOPAZ boats were towed out the harbour because of very light winds. Officer of the Day Michael Whelan assisted by Johnny Whelan was out early. When the breeze started to fill in he gave instructions to Mossie Brennock and Leonard Russel who laid the course marks and the gun sounded for the first race. At the first mark Sarah Sheehan rounded first but the next beat saw a change of leader and Gregory Fay took the gun followed by Jack Hurley second and Megan Hurley in third place. Race two was sailed in fresher winds and Rob Wynne got away and held his lead to the finish. Second place went to Gregory Fay and third place was taken by Jack and Michael Kiely. In race three Gregory Fay was back in front followed by James Quealy with Sarah Sheehan third. Race four was taken by James Quealy followed by Jack and Michael Kiely with Gregory Fay third. Thanks to all who helped to make this regatta a success.
